28 Day Body Awakening cleanse

This post gives an update on my self care goals and some info on the cleanse I’m on. So many people have been asking me about it that I wanted to share some information.

So my cleanse hasn’t arrived in the mail yet so I couldn’t start officially on Thursday but really, I’ve been doing it all week without a couple items that I don’t already own. It’s been a good week and I feel like I’ve eased into my healthy lifestyle successfully, with a couple glasses of red wine on the way. I have already lost the Christmas pounds ☺ so I’m feeling better already. I never went to the gym this week but it is scheduled in for next week! It’s happening! I cannot wait to swim laps. I really needed this week to plan and I accomplished so much and also hung out with some pretty cool people….always good for the soul. I did do yoga at home though….which I loved and will continue to do!

People have been asking me about the 28 Day cleanse that I am doing and I want to clarify that it is NOT a liquid or juice cleanse and I actually eat a lot on this plan. With the added pollution exposure from living in China, it is even more important to take care of my health and do this for my body. Here’s a little excerpt explaining the cleanse from the Body Awakening cleanse guide because who better to explain it than them.

“This gentle cleansing program has been designed to take you through a slow and steady protocol with the goal of shifting to life-long healthy habits. It is my hope for you to achieve improved and long lasting health. Food is truly medicine! Following this program is a commitment to yourself to clear the junk from you diet, cleanse your body of old waste, replenish your cells with nutrients from high quality foods and supplements and promote mind/body wellness. You will not only feel the difference but you will also see it.

During the 28 day period we will help you remove external food sources of toxins while slowly breaking food addictions. The food recommendations I have made focus on those that support the liver, our main organ of detoxification, as well as those that help elimination of waste through the colon. The supplements in this program will further ad these functions while also helping repopulate your GI tract with healthy bacteria.”

The cleanse also emphasizes the importance of hydration, sleep, exercise and stress management and suggests habits like shutting down electronics by 8:30pm at night. It really is a lifestyle cleanse, so easy to do and becomes a habit in the 28 days.

So if you’re interested, you should check them out. I already love their products. http://www.body-awakening.net If you have any questions, you can email Jessica (jessica@bodyawakeing.net) who is a nutritionist consultant and co founder of Body Awakening. She is a wealth of knowledge and has always happily answered my many questions about her products ☺ . She’s quite a resource.
Until next time.

Reasons why I love living in Shanghai.

The first post in my gratitude section. Why I love living in Shanghai!

1. That my little family gets to live in the same city together. We did 4 years with Glenn traveling back and forth to China and it wasn’t fun or ideal for any of us.

2. Our family gets to experience and appreciate living in a totally different culture.

3. The quality of education that our girls are getting.

4. The incredible people I am meeting and learning from.

5. The way China challenges and tests me constantly but is teaching me to know myself better (the good, the bad and the ugly:-) and is keeping me striving to be the best person I can be.

6. Living away from family and friends has made me appreciate them even more than I did. I just love the beautiful quality time we spend together in the summer. Making memories.

7. The joy I get from making a Chinese person smile and laugh when I attempt to joke with them in mandarin. It’s the best. Haha

8. And ….the dumplings 🙂 delish!

I’m choosing wisely.

Only joy, only love,

Michelle

My Self Care Journey

Another long one…sorry.

So I’m a list maker. Every summer I make a list of goals for the start of the school year. Some short term, some long term. I always re-evaluate in the new year and usually by the next summer there’s about 50% checked off. But many items get carried over year to year. I’m a work in progress. 😃

When I returned to Shanghai in the fall, I gave myself a goal to lose 50 pounds by June. I had lost 20 pounds before Christmas but have proudly put back on 6 of those pounds after a decadently gorgeous Christmas break. But it’s not just about the weight that has crept slowly on, but I haven’t felt completely in sync for some time….succeeding in some areas but never really feeling purposeful or that I had a place in Shanghai for Michelle Smith-Antle. Not Julia and Georgia’s mom or Glenn’s wife. This really is the journey to my best self.

In the Fall,  I did make some really positives changes to my health but didn’t follow through on some goals and never really had a solid plan for success. Well now I have a solid plan and I’m going to chronicle it here. I figure it will help keep me accountable.

I will feature companies/products and teachers that I use and love. I’m starting a 28 day Body Awakening cleanse on Thursday as the kick off. I really love their products and did their shorter 5 day cleanse last fall and use their supplements daily. Check them out at http://www.body-awakening.net.  I’ll be finished just in time for my 41st birthday. Perfect time to start a cleanse AND finish one. I’m also going to try some new services like TCM and acupuncture. I’ve been wanting to since I moved here. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you.

Here is my list for January 2017!

– Every weekday morning before waking up the girls, mediate and do sun salutations

– Complete 28 day Body Awakening cleanse starting January 12

– Add turmeric paste to my daily supplements

– Exercise 6 days a week (Combo of swimming, yoga, Pilates, Zumba)

– Write a gratitude journal

– Complete fitness test and body evaluation at Origym! So scared but I have to do it. I have NEVER done one of these….ever.

– TCM and acupuncture

– Take better care of my skin

– Improve my posture

– Complete full medical

– After 28 day cleanse, drink more fun cocktails! Gotta stop my love affair with beer. 😜😜

That’s it. Thanks for being part of my process. I’m keeping it real here, folks.

People in my Neighbourhood

One of the biggest pros to living in Shanghai is meeting people from all over the world.  They have so many interesting stories and experiences to share.  China is not for the faint of heart and I’d love to use the People in my Neighbourhood section as a space to hear about people’s trials and successes of living here.  The stresses remain very similar across all industries. It’s definitely been character building for me and I’m stronger for it.

I thought if I love meeting these people and hearing their stories, perhaps you would, too.

I’ll be looking for people to volunteer to be featured.  I promise it will be painless.  No one is safe.  hehe

Stay tuned!

Only joy, only love,

Michelle

What a week!

What an exciting start to 2017! After the best holiday staycation, my daughters went back to school on Tuesday. I’m delighted to say that it was the first school holiday that I wasn’t counting down the days to school beginning again. Haha. We had such a beautiful time together as a family and I loved every single second. It felt great.

So 2017 had a lot to live up to after how high 2016 ended. But you know what? This week has been even better. Working on Shanghai or Bust has helped me establish my goals, organize my time to obtain my goals and keep connected with a community that I love dearly. It’s been good for my heart and soul. ❤❤

I have exciting projects coming up in 2017 and I look forward to sharing them with you. Thank you so much for reading.

I had to add this. I just love it and my beautiful, ordinary life. ❤❤

Only joy, only love,

Michelle

More Sleeping Beauty submissions

Happy Friday (in China anyway)!

Below are some more Sleeping Beauty photos to share taken by my beautiful friends, Katie Kinsella and Siobhan Brown.

Anyone feel like a nap?  If I feel asleep in any of these positions, I’d wake up with a stiff neck and not be able to move it.  They are just so flexible 😉 haha
